This past Wednesday, members of the South Eastman Rotary Club visited South East Helping Hands (SEHH) in Steinbach to deepen their understanding about its role as the region's food bank.
Following a lunch of pizza and pastries, Operations Manager Ken Dyck led Rotarians Jo-Anne Dalton, George Penner, Julie Loupin, Chelsea Sealey, Glen Davies, and Kris Ontong on an insightful tour of the facilities. He explained each step of SEHH’s operation, from collecting and storing donations to organizing them into hampers and distributing food to clients every other Wednesday.
Established in 1980, SEHH is a non-profit organization that provides food assistance to those in need. Entirely sustained by public generosity without government funding, SEHH distributes food hampers to up to 400 families bi-weekly on Wednesdays from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Additionally, SEHH serves over 20 organizations within southeastern Manitoba, allocating resources to various regional partners such as Grunthal Caring Hands, Niverville Helping Hands, the Sprague Food Bank, Soup’s On Steinbach, and the Piney Food Bank.
The Rotary Club’s visit highlights a shared commitment to strengthening community ties and combating food insecurity through collective action.
