Steinbach RCMP have issued warrants for a number of prominent local community leaders in this 3rd annual comical fundraising initiative of the Rotary Club of South Eastman.

On May 22, an RCMP sweep will take place to a special holding cell that will be set up in Clearspring Centre to bring these celebrity ‘offenders’ to justice.

Accused Local Celebrities include RCMP past Staff Sergeant Harold Laninga, "Santa" Thom Doerksen, Fire Chief Kel Toews, and many more! Watch our social media as we announce the hilarious crimes of our philanthropic perpetrators.

Donations raised will support Family Education and Recreation through two local charities, Steinbach Family Resource Centre, and Recreational Opportunities for Children (ROC) Eastman. Kris's public image has always included a love for social media. But his frequent posting has caught up with him as he has been accused of Distubing the Peace. Through his multiple professional roles including podcast host with Barangay Canada, Eastern Region Immigration Partnership Program Coordinator, and his love for digital creation, his popularity on social media has caused quite the public disturbance! His wife and daughter are hoping these charges are dropped quickly, but are pleading with Kris to turn himself in. The RCMP are asking the public to use caution, as Kris is known to be armed with a selfie stick and to always be recording! Upon arrest, his bail will be set at $1,000.
Ken Dyck is well known in the community of Steinbach, after 47 years in furniture sales. He has been volunteering for 37 years with the Lions' Club, an service organization known for all the good they do around the world. It came as a great surprise to his wife of 47 years and his 2 children and 3 grandchildren, when this warrant was issued. Ken is charged with possession of stolen goods, mostly food items, and is thought to be stashing them at the local foodbank, Southeast Helping Hands. Ken is believed to be hiding out locally as he continues to solicit friends, family, and the public for their most needed items of cereal, pasta, and canned products. The RCMP are asking for reports of any sightings and warning the public to approach with caution, as Ken may have access to heavy machinery.
Santa, aka Kris Kringle, aka Ole Saint Nick, aka “Thom” has been running around the Southeast for over 20 years with a passion to make the holidays “affordable” to all and supportive of those in need by setting up FREE photos with Santa in multiple communities with donations going to local charities. When he heard of the RCMP sweep to benefit ROC Eastman and Steinbach Family Resource Centre, he jumped on the opportunity to confess to his 'crimes' of breaking and entering millions of homes on Christmas Eve every year. With millions of witnesses, the RCMP are unable to deny the legitimacy of these accusations and have issued a warrant for his arrest. Upon arrest and due to the overwhelming evidence presented, Santa's bail has been set at $5,000.
Carmel Wiebe has always had a love for her home in the Southeast and all its residents. In particular, her desire to help new mothers, support health and prevent illness led her to a lifelong career in Public Health. She is a founding Director of Steinbach Family Resource Centre and an active member of her community and her church. Recently, she has come under scrutiny as her warm winter getaway has interfered with her longstanding tradition of providing all of those in her circles with freshly made, delicious, perfectly iced Paska on Easter weekend. Her attempt to rectify this with a late offering upon her return has been met with skepticism, and she is wanted for questioning by the RCMP on the matter of this accused Sacrilege.
Kelvin Toews, Steinbach Fire Chief, has been with the Steinbach Fire Department for more than 32 years in various capacities, the last 10 as Fire Chief. You may reconize Kelvin and his wife Jennifer as the happy, unflappable dispatchers for Community Christmas, helping to spread good cheer. Kelvin is wanted for questioning by the RCMP for suspicion of Mischief... believing his Firefighting team is always ready for a new training exercise, he is believed to have started various small fires in order to provide them with more hands on experience! Kelvin is known to frequent Smitty's and The Public, where he is often seen scheming with his co-conspirators.
Art has lived close to Steinbach his whole life - for over 30 years as a salesman in the Southeast, and entered the Real Estate market in 2012. A founding owner of Coldwell Banker Preferred Real Estate in 2017, their success has been recognized as the #1 office in Southeast Manitoba for 4 years running.This consistent recognition has drawn attention to Art's Real Estate success, and he is wanted on suspicion of Financial Exploits. His passion for building genuine relationships with all those he works with has revealed a history of securing incredible deals for his clients, so much so that it borders on criminal! The RCMP are actively pursuing Art, and upon his arrest have set his bail at $3,000. Art may be found attempting to flee the country under the guise of a missions trip, or consorting with local marketplace leaders.
Farrel Rempel is the owner of Rona Labroquerie Lumber, an avid humanitarian involved in local fundraising endeavors, and a self-proclaimed pitmaster. His arrest in 2022 was one of the first ones to call attention to the serious crime ring plaguing our normally safe community. Additional charges were made for evading arrest, and he was released on a mistrial months later. In spring of 2023, Farrel was caught on camera attempting to break out known criminal Roberto Hiebert from Rotary Jail. After many months of private investigation to ensure the evidence is unquestionable, a warrant has been issued for Farrel's arrest. Bail has been set and the RCMP are on the hunt! The public is advised to seek refuge and report any sightings without attempting to confront this dangerous repeat offender.
 
As a Realtor in Steinbach and area since 1995, Elma Friesen thinks the Southeast is an 'easy sell', as a wonderful place to live and raise a family. Being an empty nester, she looks for ways to contribute and support her community now that her two daughters are grown and she is no longer needed in supporting their many sports and dance activities. It has come as a great surprise to all that a warrant has been issued for her arrest, under animal-related charges, as Elma has been suspected to have "LET THE DOGS OUT" on multiple occasions during her clients' open houses! Elma is currently believed to be hiding out in a beautifully staged Remax Listed home, and the RCMP is asking for the public's assistance in reporting any sightings. Upon arrest, Elma's bail will be set at $2,000.
Devyn Bartel is an integral member of the RIVR Financial team, bringing a down-to-earth approach and fervent commitment to simplifying the intricacies of finance. He passionately demystifies complexities while connecting with clients to empower them in their financial journeys. These skills come in handy as the Treasurer on the ROC Eastman Board of Directors. An Ultra-marathoner, Devyn's wife and two daughters recently bid him well wishes on his sprint through the Nevada desert, seeking to break his own record. Losing sight of his path in the heat, he stumbled upon a mysterious fence marked "AREA 51". He dashed past, his pace on track to break world records, much to the confusion of scientists and alien enthusiasts in the area. Devyn's unearthly speed led to a break and enter charge, along with a number of speeding tickets across multiple state lines. The RCMP are additionally seeking to interrogate Devyn as a witness to the paranormal, as recent conspiracy theories have surfaced surrounding suspected non-human athletes holding race records across the continent.
 
Finding Brian Guenther on the links during three of the four seasons of the year is par for the course. He is a PGA of Canada Golf Professional and started his career in 1992 at the Steinbach Golf Club. Brian seems to be on the fringe now that the snow has melted, finding himself in the rough as the RCMP seek to locate him for allegedly sandbagging his responsibilities. He has been accused of hacking the most recent tournament at the Steinbach Golf Club, by permitting mulligans by his friends and family. His wife and teenage son, also sports enthusiasts, have refused to comment on these allegations. The ongoing investigation has created a hazard to his work life, and he is suspected to be hiding out in a bunker somewhere in the back nine. The RCMP are advising to use caution in your angle of approach, as he is known to carry (clubs).
 
Harold Laninga is best known locally for his longstanding service as the Staff Sergeant of Steinbach RCMP. Harold joined the police force with a genuine desire to help people and make our communities better. He moved to Winnipeg and then The Pas, becoming Staff Sergeant there before accepting the role in Steinbach in 2012. His wife has been by his side from the start and together they have been married for 36 years. Despite previous arrest, Harold is charged with continuing to impersonate an officer. Easily recognizable, Harold has been seen wearing the RCMP uniform and frequenting the Steinbach station to covertly attend situation briefs and staff trainings. Harold is believed to be hiding out at one of his favorite fishing holes. Upon Arrest, Bail will be set at $2000.
As the incoming District Governor for District 5550, Peter has been accused of electoral fraud, rigging the votes of 42 clubs from Saskatchewan, through Manitoba and into Ontario. Rotarians across the District are shocked by the accusations, knowing him to be a popular champion of Rotary’s commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
South Eastman Rotary were the first to suspect the spoiling of dozens of ballots, and the Manitoba RCMP have issued a warrant for Peter’s arrest. Peter is suspected to be attempting to cross provincial lines to evade arrest. Knowing his connections in the criminal world, his bail will be set to the maximum, to attempt to keep him from fleeing once arrested. As an avid wheelchair fencer, Peter is likely armed with an epee or saber, and may be unrecognizable in his breeches and headgear.
Wendy Heier is well known in the community as the successful business owner of Heier Designs Florist. She retired after 33 years, while also pursuing her passion for community. Her own children are grown, and she now continues to contribute to youth leadership development through The Young Riders Club. Her husband of 33 years has been by her side along the way. Despite retiring, Wendy is suspected to have been unable to leave the world of flower arranging behind, and is wanted for questioning on a string of reported flower thefts carried out on horseback around the community. RCMP are seeking witnesses to come forward with any reported sightings of this mounted Flower Wrangling Gang - and urge the public to use caution, as certain flower types are known to be toxic, poisonous, and sharp to the touch!
Scott Penner grew up in Kleefeld, attending high school at the SRSS and then spending the next 25 years in Ontario. He recently moved back to the area, and opened the Pharmasave in Steinbach to offer unique services alongside filling prescriptions - with a goal to help people live healthy lives with the support of many different personal health options offered in their store. He is wanted for questioning by the RCMP, and accused of drug trafficking, as his prescription delivery service has been gaining in popularity and has raised some questions about the logistics of transporting prescription medications for FREE over such a large delivery area. Scott is on the move, and the RCMP are asking for all sightings to be reported.
